The Miami Foundation, in partnership with the FIU Metropolitan Center, has just released its Civic Engagement in Greater Miami brief in their continuing issue spotlight series. Civic engagement is defined as civic participation (beyond voting and volunteering) x civic infrastructure critical to citizens participating (e.g. access to broadband, libraries and parks and recreation). They provide updated census civic health metrics on “where we stand.” The report also highlights barriers such as wavering trust in institutions, transitional demographics, and under-sourced and over-stretched nonprofits. They list opportunities for strengthening civic health including Miami Dade Equity Plan, Press Forward , Thrive 305 and the Florida Civic Advance.
