Civic and Community Lessons from the Village Square
June 3, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Liz Joyner, Founder + CEO of The Village Square was joined by advisory co-chair Bill Mattox (James Madison Institute) and board member Jovita Woodrich (Volunteer Florida) to share civic lessons learned in 15 years of bringing diverse citizens together across color, creed and ideology in a 21st century revival of the traditional American town hall. The Village Square, located in the state capital, Tallahassee, describes themselves as “A nervy bunch of liberals and conservatives who believe that disagreement and dialogue make for a good conversation, a good country, and a good time.” Their mission is building community in hometowns across the ideological, racial, ethnic and religious divisions that have deepened so dramatically in our nation and that have prevented us from addressing the challenges we face together. They’ll share insights gained from executing this challenging mission (their mascot is a flying pig) for building strong and deep relationships inside Florida’s hometowns and across our state.
